For product and platform teams whose PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server workloads spike at month-end, checkout, or payroll—when you need a second pair of eyes on execution plans, not another monitoring subscription.
Who it is for
Engineering leads with a backlog of “database is slow” tickets and no dedicated DBA. You already have logs or APM traces; you need someone to translate them into index changes, query rewrites, and application call patterns your squad can ship.
What you receive
- Baseline capture of your top twenty slow statements (by total time or p95, agreed upfront).
- Annotated execution plans with plain-language notes—not pasted jargon without context.
- A ranked remediation list: quick wins, structural changes, and items that need product trade-offs.
- Up to eight hours of pairing on the highest-impact fixes during the engagement window.
- A short readout call with your team and optional written summary for leadership.
What we do not include
- 24/7 on-call coverage or production incident response.
- Hardware procurement or cloud account administration.
- Rewriting entire services outside the agreed query set.
Provider and process
Led by Stack Ridge principal consultants with fifteen or more years of relational tuning work. Week one focuses on access, capture, and analysis; week two on recommendations, pairing, and verification reruns. You nominate a technical point of contact for credentials and context.
Timeline and delivery
Fourteen calendar days from kickoff, remote over video with optional half-day on-site in Durban or Umhlanga when travel is practical. We work in your business hours (SAST by default; other zones by arrangement).
Preparation
Read-only database access, sample anonymized data if required by policy, and links to recent slow-query exports. NDA available on request before credentials are shared.
Pricing basis
Fixed fee from ZAR 48,000 for a single production database and one application tier; multi-database scopes are quoted after a thirty-minute intake. See rate guidance.
